USCF State Prison Release Paths
Utah State Correctional Facility is operated by UDC at 1480 North 8000 West in Salt Lake City. It holds sentenced state prisoners and serves as Utah’s main release-processing point. UDC states that almost all prison releases and paroles are completed at USCF, even when a person was housed at Central Utah Correctional Facility or in a county contract jail. Release from an ordinary Rich County booking follows a different local path and must not inherit USCF rules.
A person leaving USCF may enter parole, reach sentence expiration or termination, or move to a Community Correctional Center. Parole means conditional release from secure prison custody under Utah Board of Pardons and Parole authority. The person stays under UDC supervision through Adult Probation and Parole. A Community Correctional Center is a supervised placement, not an unrestricted discharge. Sentence termination or expiration ends the stated term or jurisdiction as reflected in the official order and corrections record.

Confirm a USCF Release
Use the UDC Offender Search only for a state corrections case. Search by first and last name, with at least one letter in each field, or use the UDC offender number. The number is safer for common names and aliases. Compare the returned person with the sentencing court, case, birth information, offense, and location. Record the exact legal status rather than replacing it with a broad label.

- Open the BOPP Hearings and Decisions search by name or offender number.
- Read the decision document for parole, rescission, rehearing, expiration, or termination language.
- For a completed event, confirm processing through UDC or the supervising AP&P office.
The public UDC tool searches people currently under UDC supervision. It is not a complete archive. A fully discharged person may stop appearing after UDC jurisdiction ends. No result could also reflect a spelling issue, wrong identifier, or the fact that the person never entered Utah state custody. Use the Board decision, sentencing case, and UDC records request for the historical path.
Read USCF Release Search Fields
UDC’s public-information inventory may include identity, date of birth, UDC number, legal status, assigned facility, offenses, sentence length, sentencing court and case, Board hearing date, “Parole/Expiration Date,” and a prison photograph. The live detail controls what is actually displayed. The official date label should not be renamed “guaranteed release date.” Utah uses indeterminate sentencing, which gives BOPP a central decision role within the lawful sentence.

Read the Board order itself. Search-row dates can be incomplete without the decision text. A granted future date remains subject to later Board action and physical processing. Utah does not impose one universal rule that every state prisoner serves about 85 percent. The indeterminate sentence, offense rules, Board order, earned-time action, consecutive terms, and later proceedings can all affect the date.

When USCF Releases Are Processed
The official UDC Release Day instructions state that prison releases and paroles are normally processed on Tuesday at USCF.
The source connects the legal date to the physical exit process. UDC asks people picking up USCF or CUCF clients to arrive at 9 a.m. and people held in county contract beds at 10 a.m. Processing can take one to four hours. Pickup is limited to two people and one vehicle. Those are UDC instructions for state-prison releases, not rules for bond release from Rich County Jail.
Families and support people should use the USCF Release Building instructions and confirm the event before travel. UDC explains that clothing may be brought for the person leaving custody. People without rides are released last, and a release team member or volunteer may provide a case-by-case ride to a nearby UTA TRAX station. A person paroling to a Community Correctional Center is transported there by UDC.
Timing matters. The Board’s legal date, UDC’s scheduled processing, and the completed exit are distinct facts. State that a person “was granted a date” until UDC status or an agency record shows the release was completed. Operational delay does not by itself change the legal order, but it can change when pickup occurs.
USCF Releases for Rich County
Rich County has no UDC prison. A person connected to a Rich County criminal case may reach USCF only after entry into state custody. UDC’s April 2025 county-jail program report states that Rich County Jail housed no state contract prisoners at that snapshot. If that arrangement changes, UDC still says release from a county jail is extremely rare and almost everyone is processed through USCF.
Do not begin an ordinary Rich County arrest search in UDC. The tool excludes people awaiting trial or not yet sentenced in a county jail. Start with the Sheriff, identify whether the outcome was a local release or a state commitment, then move to UDC only when the record establishes the state path. The Rich County released inmate search separates county, state, court, VINE, and federal channels.
After parole, Region 2 Logan AP&P serves Cache and Rich Counties. The office is outside Rich County. Current supervision should be checked with the UDC search and the official office directory, not inferred from the arrest county or an old address. When the sentence terminates, the current-supervision search may no longer return the person, so preserve the Board order or request the state record.
A county court record still matters after state commitment. It identifies the judgment, sentencing court, case number, and authority that sent the person into UDC custody, but it does not replace the later Board order or state release record. When dates differ, compare what each one represents: the sentence, a hearing, a granted parole date, transfer for processing, or the completed exit. That sequence is useful for a Rich County case because the local court, USCF release staff, BOPP, and Region 2 supervision office may each hold one part of the trail.
USCF Parole Decision Records
BOPP decides release from Utah’s indeterminate prison sentences. Its combined search accepts a person’s name or offender number and also offers date-range searches for hearings and decisions. A name search can return aliases. Read enough identity information to select the correct person. The decision document can show a parole date, rehearing, redetermination, rescission, parole-violation action, sentence expiration, or termination.
Decisions generally are not announced at the hearing itself. Board materials describe later deliberation and publication, often within several weeks. A hearing date therefore means a proceeding is scheduled or occurred. It does not mean release was granted. Salt Lake hearings generally run Monday through Thursday, but the named person’s schedule controls.
If parole has occurred, AP&P becomes the practical community-supervision contact. If a violation or warrant issue returns the person to prison, BOPP may hold a violation or evidentiary proceeding and can issue a new order. This is why the most recent decision and current UDC status should be read together.

For a record, identify the offender number, requested date, and exact parole, expiration, discharge, or termination information sought. UDC lists some fields as public, but its full corrections file has access limits under Utah Code section 64-13-27. BOPP’s public decision search may answer a parole-date question without a separate request.
VINE may send a custody event, but it is not a certified release record. BOPP currently warns that notices can be inaccurate or missing and lists 801-261-6464 for verified Board status. Pair a notification with UDC or BOPP confirmation.
